On October 27, Ute Herta Lohrentz, President of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, visited our university, and President Ding Xiaodong met with the guests in Conference Room 201 of Yates Hall. Relevant personnel from the Office of the Party Committee (President), International Affairs Office and Sino-German College attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Xu Lin, Deputy Director of International Affairs Office.
On behalf of USST, Ding Xiaodong welcomed the delegation of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, and in his speech, he introduced in detail the historical lineage of the university and the specific practice of promoting international talent cultivation, and recalled the origin of cooperation between the two universities. This year is the 25th anniversary of the founding of Shanghai-Hamburg International College of Engineering, as one of the important projects of Shanghai-Hamburg Friendship City cultural exchange, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Hamburg University of Applied Sciences h**e established a profound friendship in the cooperative education, and jointly cultivated a batch of high-quality applied talents with international vision. Sino-German cooperation has become a major feature of USST's internationalization, and will be an important way for us to further the task in the first-class undergraduate education, enhance the strength of university running and improve the quality of talent cultivation.
Ms. Lorentz thanked USST for its warm reception. As the new president of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, this is her first visit to Shanghai. She pointed out that the two universities h**e a long history of cooperation, fruitful results, and accumulated valuable experience in cooperative school running, both sides will continue to play their respective advantages and characteristics, broaden the scope of cooperation, explore the depth of cooperation, and put forward constructive suggestions for further cooperation between the two universities in the future.
At the meeting, the two sides had an in-depth discussion on how to improve the quality and sustainable development of Sino-German cooperative education under the new situation, and made exchanges on expanding the enrollment scale of undergraduate students, setting up more postgraduate cultivation programs, building laboratories together, expanding internship programs, etc. The two sides reached a consensus to continuously optimize and improve the level of cooperation between the two universities, and to focus on cultivating more excellent internationalized and applied talents.
