On 27 September, President Ding Xiaodong met with the President of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Margaret Sheil, and her delegation of 6 people in 201 conference room of Yates Hall. Academician Dou Shixue,dean of the Institute of Energy and Materials Science (IEMS), academician Liu Huakun, Chief Scientist of IEMS, and relevant personnel from the President Office, the Academy of Science and Technology Development,the Graduate School Department, the International Affairs Office, and the Institute of Energy and Materials Science attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Vice President Cai Yonglian.
On behalf of USST, Ding Xiaodong welcomed the visit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT). In his speech, he said that USST is a key applied research university in Shanghai with the coordinated development of multiple disciplines focusing on engineering, and that the university attaches great importance to international exchanges and co-operation, and it has established co-operative relationships with nearly 200 higher education institutes and research organizations in 39 countries and regions. Last year, USST newly established the Institute of Energy and Materials Science. The dean,academician Dou Shixue led his team to maintain close contact with the Queensland University of Technology. Now the two universities are discussing the establishment of USST-QUT Joint Research Centre, to promote in-depth cooperation between the two sides. It is a very good initiative. Queensland University of Technology is a public research university with a long history and excellent reputation, focusing on practical teaching, research and education oriented to meet market demand, which also coincides with USST's talent cultivation model adhering to the demand-oriented, directly facing the global scientific and technological innovation and the modern industrial system of the education plan.
Margaret Sheil thanked USST for its warm reception. She introduced in detail the scientific research advantages of QUT and its cooperation in science and technology innovation with Chinese universities, research institutes and enterprises, and said that QUT will continue to deepen the all-round international education and scientific research cooperation with USST with a positive and open attitude, and take advantage of each other's research strengths to carry out joint academic projects, joint doctoral cultivation and exchange training program of faculty and staff between the two sides through the establishment of the USST-QUT Joint Research Centre, and to promote our two universities to achieve new achievemnts in scientific research and talent cultivation.
At the meeting, the two sides signed an agreement on joint doctoral cultivation and then exchanged gifts afterwards. After the meeting, the delegation of QUT visited the Institute of Energy and Materials Science, and carried out in-depth exchanges on the feasibility of establishing the USST-QUT Joint Research Centre and one Sino-foreign cooperation school organization.
