From March 14 to 18, 2022, USST and Central University of Japan jointly held a successful international talent quality cultivation program.

This project is an innovative initiative of the International Affairs Office of USST to promote the exchange between Chinese and foreign youth and enhance students’ international literacy under the background of the normalization of epidemic prevention and control. The program was conducted through an online platform by the Japanese Cultural Exchange Center and USST Tokyo Office, with a total of nearly 50 students from USST and Central University of Japan participating.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Umeda, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Central University of Japan, and Ms. Cai Hui, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Office of USST, delivered speeches in which they reviewed the friendly cooperation between the two universities over the years and hoped that the students could experience the charm of Chinese culture, learn cutting-edge science and technology, understand the current needs of multinational enterprises and improve their cross-cultural communication skills through this program.

Among them, the most popular one was the "intimate contact" with the Japanese "Netflix" documentary director Ryo Takeuchi. As a "cultural ambassador walking backwards in China", director Takeuchi shared with the students his journey of recording and walking in China with his camera. For the past ten years, he has been building a bridge between Chinese and Japanese culture through his camera with the intention of "breaking down prejudice". During the discussion session, the Chinese and Japanese students also had a lively interaction with Director Takeuchi on topics such as the greatest charm of China, China's digital epidemic prevention methods, and the popular Chinese and Japanese athletes at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Due to the epidemic, this cultivation program was held online, but this could not resist the enthusiastic exchange and discussion between both sides. At the end of each lecture, the students threw out one question after another, leaving the guests overwhelmed, and at the closing ceremony on 18th, each student summarized the full harvest of the online learning program. The students from Central University of Japan exclaimed that the image of China in the Japanese media was mostly one-sided, but the five days of communication with the guests and Chinese youth in various fields have helped them to perceive a more realistic China. At the end of the ceremony, the students promised to come to China to make personal experiences once the clouds of epidemic have cleared.

The International Affairs Office will actively innovate and expand the platform, promote international communication capability, tell Chinese story in a proper way, spread out the Chinese voice, and further promote Chinese and foreign humanities exchanges.
