On March 6, Mileidy Aguirre Díaz, the Consul General of Cuba in Shanghai, visited our university with a delegation of six people, including the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group. Vice President Cai Yonglian met with the Consul General and his delegation.
On behalf of USST, Cai Yonglian firstly welcomed the visit of Diaz and his delegation. USST is one of the most profound universities in China in terms of cultivating talents and scientific research at the intersection of medicine and engineering. In 2022, with the support of Consul General Diaz, USST and the University of H**ana successfully completed the signing and inauguration of the "Sino-Cuban International Joint Laboratory of Oncology Diagnosis and Energy Therapy". She hoped both sides could develop further cooperation with the University of H**ana and the Cuban Biotechnology and Medicine Industry Group.
Díaz expressed her gratitude for the warm reception of USST. She mentioned that Cuba was the first country in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with China, and after the 20th CPC Congress, Díaz-Canel, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba, was the first head of state in Latin America to visit China, and will continue to promote Cuba-China cooperation to a deeper level. The Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group, the largest biomedical industry group in Cuba, will also cooperate with the university in the field of biomedicine.
Afterwards, Zulaine Guerra Montané, General Representative of the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Group in China, and Kalet León Monzón, Deputy Director of the Cuban Molecular Immunology Center, introduced the relevant information respectively.
In her concluding speech, Cai Yonglian pointed out that the spring of high-level scientific cooperation has arrived and the channel of high-quality education advancement has emerged. China and Cuba should firmly grasp the opportunity of cooperation and continue to promote comprehensive international education and research cooperation.
