On November 10th, the lecture of Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, (DAAD) in cooperation with the Akademische Prüfstelle Kulturreferat der Deutschen Botschaft Peking (APS) was held on the second floor of the German Culture Centre (GCC).
Sakine Weikert, Director of DAAD Shanghai, Xu Wenjie, Information Officer of DAAD Shanghai and the staff of the APS gave a special lecture on the common problems of international students. The lecture systematically explained the understanding, planning and preparation required for international students, which will surely further enhance students' understanding of the process of studying in Germany and clarify their planning for studying in Germany. In addition, they gave comprehensive and reliable advice on how to organize students' daily and after-school life in Germany and provided a one-on-one Q&A session at the end of the event.
Before the start of the lecture, Mr. Zhou, director of GCC gave a speech on behalf of the Center and gave a warm welcome to the guests.
Sakine Weikert, Director of DAAD Shanghai, firstly explained the mission and objectives of DAAD, which is to provide information and assistance to students studying in Germany, including the provision of scholarships and the promotion of research cooperation. DAAD was founded in 1925 and represents 241 universities and 103 student groups in Germany. Currently, DAAD has 15 representative offices and 57 information centers in 60 countries worldwide.
The information officer Wenjie Xu gave us an overview of Germany. Germany is at the gateway to Europe, with a low population density, a high proportion of urban population, beautiful scenery, and strengths in the mechanical industry and precision instruments. Afterwards, Ms. Xu explained in detail the classification of German universities, the relative advantages of German universities, the choice of German university majors, as well as the tuition fees and living expenses in German universities. Wenjie Xu also pointed out two exams that can qualify students to study in Germany, TestDaf and DSH.
Finally, Ms. Xu recommended websites related to studying in Germany for students' reference, where practical information can be found.
