From June 26th to June 30th, President of USST Ding Xiaodong led a delegation to pay a visit to Universität Hamburg, Hamburg HAW Hamburg:Hochschule für Angewandte Wisseschaften Hamburg, and Kühne Logistics University, KLU. This visit was meant to expand the profession construction of Sino-foreign collaboration in education and summer exchange programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, and advance co-establishing international joint laboratories against the background of a high-level university construction.
The delegation first visited Universität Hamburg. Accompanied by Professor Zhang Jianwei, an academician of Academy of Science at Universität Hamburg, Ding Xiaodong met some department heads of Universität Hamburg. Ding briefed them on USST’s progress in international education and expects a bright future for the collaboration between USST and Universität Hamburg. Afterwards, the delegation went to the College of Natural Science and Computer and learned something about it. At the same time, the delegation visited the AI laboratory in which Zhang Jianwei is in charge. Then the delegation visited Hamburg HAW: Hochschule für Angewandte Wissen. The university has had an established relationship with USST for more than 30 years. The project of Sino-foreign collaboration between both universities is listed in Shanghai-Harmburg Friendly City Cultural Program and is appraised as an example of outstanding collaboration in education. During the period at HAW Hamburg:Hochschule für Angewandte Wisseschaften Hamburg, Ding had a deep talk with President of the university Terschel, Vice President Besssenrott Webperse, Schultze, Head of International Affairs Office and other heads of colleges in many aspects, especially in the consensus of the collaborative program in terms of scale and level. At last, the delegation paid a visit to Kühne Logistics University, KLU. They had a talk with President of the university Strotott, Baylor, Director of International Affairs Office. Kühne Logistics University-Wissenschaftliche Hochschule für Logistik und Unternehmensführung has carried out educative collaboration with Dalian Maritime University and Tongji University. Now, the representatives of the university also expect to carry out collaboration in student exchange programs in majors and subjects with USST.
During the visit, Du Xiaohui, the Consulate-General of People’s Republic of China in Hamburg invited Ding Xiaodong to h**e a visit at the General Consulate. Ding g**e brief introductions of international affairs at USST to Du, noting that early in 1998, USST and Hamburg HAW: Hochschule für Angewandte Wissen worked together to establish the Shanghai-Harmburg College, which developed the pragmatic collaboration between Chinese and German universities, and cultivated for and transferred to the society a group of talent that understand German, possess professional skills and can communicate in cross-cultural contexts. In recent years, to appeal to and call for a national strategy of developing AI and intelligent manufacturing, USST has carried out deep collaboration with the team led by Zhang Jianwei. They worked together to establish an international joint laboratory and an institute of machine intelligence. Du noted that Shanghai and Harmburg h**e a shared sister relationship. It is beneficial to highlight respective strengths of China and Germany and achieve sustainable win-win results if both deepen and strengthen collaboration.
USST has shared a close relationship with Germany universities for a long time. Apart from traditional collaborative projects and talent cultivation, USST effectively has advanced the work of scientific research with such comprehensive universities as Universität Hamburg, Universität Stuttgart, and RWTH Aachen University. During the period in Germany, the delegation carried out effective activities with partnership universities for expanding the communicative platform with Germany and even Europe and pushing ahead the development of an international strategy in both depth and scope.
